SEPTEMBER 12 - Dorothy E. Griggs Brown, 59, died Thursday, September 7, 2006.
She was born April 26, 1947 in Cumberland. She was the ninth of 13 children born to Lucy Jackson Griggs and the late Walter M. Griggs Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Realous Theodore Brown.
Mrs. Brown was an employee of Southslde Community Hospital for 28 years and a member of First Baptist Church in Farmville.
She is survived by her mother, Lucy J. Griggs; companion of 19 years, James Green; ,two sons, Walter Keith and Otis Lee (Patricia) of Farmville; two daughters, Deborah Denise (Edward) Langhorn of Cumberland and Jacqueline Rena (Marvin) Vaughan of Prospect; nine grandchildren, Stanley Tony", Mario "Shawn", Dominique and Travis Brown, Kevon Woodson, Deron Harvey, Malcolm and Rashanda Vaughan, Tra-nell and Shantell Foster; four great-grandchildren, DeMarius and Shyheim Brown, Shalania and Sha'daijah Baker; seven sisters, Rosa Griggs, Sallie Mae Dubose, Lucy (Roger) Jackson, Sue (Tony) Smith, Frances Rose and Nancy Griggs; three brothers, Walter M. (Lena) Griggs Jr., David (Doris) Griggs and Lewis Griggs: mother-in-law, Rebecca Brown; a brother-in-law, George Brown; four sisters-in-law, America Rice, Dorothy Booker, Sarah Brown and Martha Douglas; an aunt and uncle, Jordan (Virginia) Jackson; former sister-in-law, Frances Griggs Reid (Armstead) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Betty Ross, Aubrey Griggs, Thomas Griggs and a granddaughter, Ashley T. Vaughan.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Farmville, with interment in Odd Fellow Cemetery.

Pastor Wyatt Venable Of  Pamplin Dies Thursday
   PAMPLIN, March 2 - Pastor Wyatt Thomas Venable Sr., 68, of Pamplin, died Thursday, February 23, 2006 at his home after an extended illness.
   He was born September 28, 1937 in Charlotte County, to the late Emmanuel and Nannie Louise Venable.
   Pastor Venable attended and graduated from Liberty University Bible Institute and South-side Community College. He served as Pastor at New Store, Hickory Grove, Chestnut Grove, and Mt. Moriah Baptist Churches. He also served as interim Pastor at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He was currently serving as the Assistant Pastor at Peaceful Grove Baptist. He served as president of the United Minister's Conference of Pamplin and Vicinity for 21 years. He was a member of the Farmville Minister's Conference. He co-founded Faith In Action of Pamplin. Pastor Venable also served as Southside Community Hospital Chaplain and Hospice member. He was instrumental in establishing the DARE program at Prince Edward Middle School.
   He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Minerva Alien Venable; two daughters, Connie (Steve) Smith of Roanoke and Clarice (Anthony) Ellison of Gloucester; one son, Wyatt (Geraldine) Venable Jr. of Richmond; three brothers, James Venable of Roanoke, Pastor William (Florine) Venable of Nathalie and Anthony Haskins of Pamplin; a devoted Godmother, Lessie Thompson; Goddaughter, Patricia Carter and Godson, Woodrow Haskins Jr.; five sisters-in-law; eight brothers-in-law; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five aunts; three uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and devoted caregivers, Henry and Theresa Home.
   Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday at White Oak Grove Baptist Church, Phenix, with interment in the church cemetery.
   Carl U. Eggleston Funeral Establishment was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral Service For Mabel Nunnally Held February 24
   RICE, March 2 - Mabel E. Nunnally, of Rice, died Sunday, February 19, 2006.
   She was born June 2, 1917 In Prince Edward County, to the late George G. and Callie B. Marshall.
Mrs. Nunnally was educated In the public schools of Prince Edward County and Edgemere, Maryland. She was the former church clerk of the High Rock Baptist Church of Rice and served In that position for 26 years.
   She was employed by the Prince Edward County School System as an assistant cook for 23 years. She retired from the school system in 1988.
   She is survived by her children, Shirley (Vincent) Earley of Keysville, Vance (Annie) Nunnally, Robert (Mary) Nunnally, Roy Nunnally, Charles (Vivian) Nunnally, Melvin (Mattie) Nunnally of Rice; her sister. Evangelist Callie M. Jenklns of Cantonsville, Maryland; ten grandchildren, Robert Jr., Carolyn, LaTreasa, Angela, Keita, Sharrod, Katrita, Darryl, Christopher, Lakara and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace H. Nunnally and a grandson, Kevin Nunnally.
   A funeral service was held 1 p.m. Friday at High Rock Baptist Church of Rice, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
   The Carl U. Eggleston Funeral Establishment assisted the family with arrangements.
